Maintaining A Clean Home

I remember the time when we finally moved into our brand new Lancaster New City home (project of PRO FRIENDS). It was so new that I kind of shied away from the idea of going inside and moving our old stuff in. It looked new; it smelled new; it felt new. Ever since, I have been determined to retain that new house feel by always maintaining a clean home. It is really hard to conduct a major house cleaning, too, so maintenance will keep everything orderly and pretty.

Here’s how I try to maintain our home:

Daily Dusting
Whether we like it or not, dust invades our home. White or light-colored furniture may give the illusion that there is no dust but once your swipe it with a rag, you’ll see for yourself. A feather duster is good but I think a rag is better when dusting. Be sure to start from up then downwards when it comes to dusting shelves.

Daily Sweeping/Vacuuming
Since you dusted, then you better get sweeping. Some dust may have fallen to the floor so it’s good to sweep it. Also, the floor tends to get easily dirty the most. Vacuum carpets, too. Dust hides well in carpets.

Throw Away Hair
When you see strands of hair that may have fallen on the couch, floor, and so on, pick it up and throw it away. Hair tends to quickly accumulate dirt and dust. Clean your combs or brushes, too. Don’t let the hair stuck on those fall on the floor.

While bathing, don’t let hair go through the drain. It’s easier to just gather them and throw them in the trash bin than have a hard time cleaning your drainage when it becomes clogged with hair and dirt. Eek!

Imply Strict House Rules
You may be a clean person but how about the rest of your tenants? Be sure to impose house rules so that you won’t have a hard time cleaning and maintaining.

Don’t be too lenient towards guests as well. It’s your home; let them respect your rules. Don’t be so authoritative or bossy in your approach though! Haha!

Scrub the Toilet
You don’t have to clean your bathroom overall (but do clean it once a week). Just quickly scrub away ringlets on the floor and use the toilet brush to avoid a smelly or “marked” (stains and unidentified dirt, yuck) toilet. Place a rug right outside the shower area so that users won’t produce puddles and slippery floors. Tell tenants and guests to NEVER flush away used tissue or sanitary pads. Tell them to also wipe away any puddles they produce after using the bathroom.

Keep Everything Orderly and in Place
As  cliché as it may sound, keeping everything orderly does not only give a beautiful sight to the eyes but it also keeps dust accumulation at bay. It also helps avoid losing track of things especially tiny knickknacks. It’s also annoying to find those things when you accidentally sweep them up along with dirt or dust. You’ll have to clean them now.
