Moving into a new home is a great way start a new life. It feels
refreshing and exciting. But it can be pretty tiring, too. Moving stuff into
boxes, hiring help, and unboxing stuff – yep, that’s all part of it. I know all
about it since we experienced moving in to a new home here at Lancaster
(project of PROFRIENDS).
There are some things you need to let go or purchase, too. Here are
some of the very important things you should consider having first before
anything else:
Furniture and Essentials
Bed – What joy is there in a beautiful home if there is no comfort? A
bed is essential since it is a place to retire and energize for daily living.
Even a simple mattress can temporarily suffice to truly rest easy.
Couch – Again, comfort is important in order to rest well after a
tiring session of moving things to the new home. Guests will also be able to
rest comfortably with a couch than a bed.
Dining Table & Essentials – Sleeping is done once a day but eating
is done 3-4 times a day and it i
s easier to do that with a
dining table. Of course, it would be hard to eat and cook without utensils so
best to have those as well.
Drapes/Window Blinds – Although many think of drapes as mere
decoration, drapes are useful especially for concealing things from potential
robbers or thieves. They help block the sun, too.
Cleaning materials – Save the beauty and newness of your home by cleaning
regularly! It’s such a waste if it quickly looks used and abused due to
improper management. A trash bin is very necessary even if it’s just one at the
moment.
Home Appliances and Electronics
Refrigerator – It’s hard to eat good food without a refrigerator.
Left-over food will easily spoil, too, if not placed inside the fridge. Plus,
cold drinks are enjoyable especially in the Philippine climate.
TV – The television is always thought of as a means of entertainment,
and yes it is, but it also serves as a quick source for information regarding
news, weather, government announcements, and so on.
Doorbell – It’s hard to know if someone is there without a doorbell. What
if you were too busy doing something to notice a visitor outside? Or expecting
a delivery perhaps? A doorbell is handy so get one!
Locks – One can never be sure if the neighborhood is actually safe so
always lock doors, gates, and windows. This is the Philippines, akyat-bahay (trespassers via the roof)
exists here.
Knick Knacks
Pen and paper – You never know when you need to sign or jot down
something important.
Scissors – We’re not superman. There are stuff we just can’t open on
our own and a trusty pair of scissors can help.
Tape – Scotch tape, packaging tape, duct tape… whatever it is you
prefer, just make sure you have tape for just in case moments like sealing
boxes, sticking stuff to whatever, and so on.
Flashlight/candles & matchsticks – No light or electricity yet?
Then have these around!
