ProFriends: While Being Robbed

It’s scary to think about your home getting robbed but it could happen, so brace yourself and think of ways to prevent that from happening. Get a dog, get a burglar alarm, lock doors and windows, and hide valuables. But what do you do when someone is already right outside trying to get inside your home? Or worse, is already inside? Here are a few tips you should keep in mind.

When you know someone is trying to get in, turn on many lights inside and outside your home. Robbers will get scared and will immediately run away. If you want to catch that bugger, install CCTV cameras in your home and report it to the police.

If a robber or trespasser is still brave enough to get inside, then he might be armed and dangerous. Make loud noises. Break things and throw pots and pans. Scream if you can. These may awaken neighbors or alert nearby patrol cars/teams. It may also finally scare away the trespasser.

But what do you do when someone is already inside? You don’t know if he/she is armed yet it’s dangerous especially if it’s dark. Try to get your mobile phone and hide away in a room or the bathroom quietly and call the police. Or hide in your kids’ room so that you can be with them and shush them. Make them feel safe. If the trespasser tries to go in, try to be armed and prepared and instruct your kids to run away when you struggle to pin down/hold/fight the trespasser.

I think it is okay to physically harm your trespasser since you’re the one being victimized here. And like Jennifer Lopez once said in her movie Enough, “Self-defense is not murder.”  Though I am not for pro-murder, I think J.Lo made sense since it’s protect yourself else be killed. Some would have guns in their home but it’s your call. I couldn’t place such a scary thing in our home since we’re three girls living here and we might just hurt ourselves instead. Also, instead of being a self-defense weapon, the trespasser might use it against us instead if he/she finds it.

We live in Lancaster New City (PROFRIENDS) and the gates are heavily guarded but I still don’t want to take chances so I might sign up for a self-defense class one of these days. I would like to sign up for first-aid training as well.

How about you guys? Do you have tips on what to do during a break-in? Or maybe you have had experience before and want to share it? Comment away!

P.S.
I suddenly remembered this news video I saw on Facebook about a thief getting stuck and wounded on the house’s gate. It’s funny how karma can be so quick. But I kind of feel sorry for the manong, too, since it looked painful. The video is in a local dialect and I can’t understand most of the things being said.
